I narrowed my choice to the Samsung T24A350 and FX2490HD. I think both are very similar in term of specs. I like the FX2490HD's stand, but the T24A350 is newer and has black color which I prefer. So I went for the T24A350. The reason I chose 24" screen is that max resolution for TV is 1080p. If I get a bigger one, the pixel density decreases and I think it would not look sharp when using in monitor mode.1. As an HDTV, it is amazing. It automatically scans for cable/antenna channels and removed scrambled ones. Picture is sharp, color is vivid on HD channel (720p or 1080i). I don't usually watch TV much but I have to admit I will spend more time because of the improvement in HD quality. I mainly use this as an external monitor for my Macbook Pro. So I take advantage of the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature to have a small TV window overlaid on the bottom right corner. I can select the size and position of this TV... In addition to having a screen resolution suitable for computer use (1680x1050), it also had a good array of A/V hookups (2x HDMI, component, RCA, digital audio), good speakers, an over-the-air TV tuner, and a (near-perfect) TV remote. It seemed to be the perfect monitor for a mixed use environment, like a kitchen or a bedroom. Neat!However, I was severely disappointed by this panel because I hadn't done my homework. It turns out that Samsung uses a Twisted Nematic (TN) display technology for almost all of its consumer displays (computer monitors included!), and this unit was no exception. The trade-off with TN panels is that color and contrast shift significantly in the vertical direction, even if you keep your head still.
