3.0 out of 5 stars The Sharp LC65E77UM Aquos LCD TV - Sharp Delivered!, October 11, 2009

This review is from: Sharp AQUOS LC65E77UM 65-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Gold Bezel (Electronics)
I have had this TV for a couple of weeks now. I waited a month from the day I ordered it to the day it finally arrived.

This TV is not heavy and it was easy putting it up on the wall mounted rack. I was pleasantly surprised.

Let me get this straight to anyone who is concerned, the gold bezel is like a faint gloss on the bottom of the TV. Hard to notice. I am not certain why they put that light color on the set, but you have to strain to notice it. When set up on in my theater room, this is not noticeable in any way. Don't worry about it if you are dithering on purchasing this set because of the gold bezel.

The picture is stunning and excellent. It is the best picture I have ever seen on a set. It's got some interesting features, for example the TV has a built in ambient light sensor which ramps the brightness of the picture up and down based on the light surrounding the TV. Turn it off. It dulls the picture quality in darkness. I have found... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great experience with Sharp USA...., December 24, 2009
This review is from: Sharp AQUOS LC65E77UM 65-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Gold Bezel (Electronics)
I originally purchased a floor model 65inch Aquos LCD TV model 65D64U from Sears in September 2009. Sears had the floor model for some time and placed it on clearance with a price that was unbeatable. I trucked the TV home and it looked pretty good for the first two weeks. Shortly afterwards however, two ghost like horizontal bars streched acrossed the screen that were about one inch in length each. I left it alone hoping it was a bad input or poor signal from my Dish Network HD box. The lines persisted, even with other components hooked up to different inputs. Needless to say, I was not very happy with the picture as the bars were awfully distracting.

I contacted Sharp via their Aquos Advantage online chat and was told to take several pictures of the problem and send via e-mail to their customer service. I did as instructed and recieved a phone call the next day. The representative set up an in-home repairman visit for the next business day. The repairman came as promised... Read more

UPDATE: It's been one year since I posted my original review and I stand by every word. I simply have not seen better picture quality (sharpness, brightness, color saturation, etc...) on any other LCD set, of any size, than the one that sits in my family room. The picture remains stunning and the set has performed flawlessly.

--------------

I just hooked up this set and am thoroughly impressed. How can you beat this for the money? What do people look for in any TV set? Picture quality! Look no further folks - the picture quality is absolutely superb (no dead pixels). Why would anyone want to pay more for a Samsung or Sony? They undoubtedly make very good 65" sets. But what are you getting for the extra thousand dollars? An ethernet connection? 240 Hz technology? Both features are completely overrated in my humble opinion. You won't be disappointed with this Sharp Aquos. It's stunning.

I was hesitant about buying this TV but went for it anyway. I'm glad I did. This is my first LED TV. I was looking to replace my big-screen projection TV, but my budget didn't allow the size I needed. So I figured I'd settle for this one with the intention of moving it into the bedroom later on. I didn't need all the extra connections, and definitely didn't want a 3D TV. This model seemed to provide what I needed. I haven't been able to check out all of the features completely, so I'll update my review later. But for now, it really is an awesome TV.

Pros:
- The picture is absolutely beautiful in HD. Almost life-like. Out of the box, it wasn't great. I had to play with the settings to get it the way I wanted it. I found it better to turn off the Clear Motion and just run it at 120hz with no software enhancements. I have yet to find another type of viewing that would benefit from the 240hz. But I haven't watched football or Nascar yet :)
- Full LED;... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad, November 28, 2011

This review is from: Samsung UN46D6003 46-Inch 1080p LED HDTV - Black (Electronics)
Good:

1) Great picture, which is why I bought the TV. 240 refresh rate.

Bad:

1) While this is an internet connectable TV, you can ONLY do this with a wireless adapter, which you have to buy at additional cost. You cannot connect with a LAN cable as there is no LAN port on this TV. I was both surprised and disappointed with this. I bought an LG Blu-ray player, which came with a LAN port for internet apps and cost about the same as the wireless adapter for this TV.

2) The remote is less than basic - you can't control your cable box or DVD player.

3) Stand and overall quality/finish of the TV is not great. Even the screws to assemble to the stand were machined poorly and don't fit well. Stand does not rotate.

4) Very limited Inputs and Outputs!

Samsung really stripped everything out of this TV. They should have left the smart TV out as well and lowered the price point further. It doesn't feel like a high-end... Read more

I bought this tv last week and I am so very pleased with it.
I chose this model for several reasons but one big one is that it is NOT 3D....not falling for that fad stuff! I also run all my things through an AV receiver...which everyone should be doing already, so I didnt care if it even had speakers built in..just gonna mute em anyway. Only need one HDMI port, everything is funneled through the receiver again. This tv is light. I was able to replace my bulky 720p 60 pounder with this 30 or so pounder using the same wall hanging mount ...BONUS! It's so thin it's almost too close to the wall now, so awesome!
You will spend a bit making sure all your tv settings are right for the style of tv you watch...fast action movies and sports vs soap operas :P But once you get it right Man o Man. What a great buy.
So for those of you not wanting a 3D fad tv, not needing 8 million inputs, not needing awesome high def speakers....this is your tv!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best TV of anyone I know, November 4, 2011
This review is from: LG Infinia 42LV5400 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV (Electronics)
I was initially skeptical about purchasing this TV from Sam's Club because they were only selling 9 of them - and not removing any from the boxes to display. In other words, I bought this TV on blind faith and the strong recommendation from the store associate. And I'm extremely glad I took his advice.

The picture on this TV is brilliant in High Def. It's very bright, crystal clear, and truly beautiful. It literally has the best picture of any TV I shopped for, including the Sony's and Samsung's. My grandfather watched the NCAA basketball tournament with me last year and during every commercial he would remark, "LG: Life's Good" because we were enjoying ourselves so much watching the games on the TV (with a Bose 321 home theater system attached). Even several months later, I still love watching HD football and NASCAR races on it. It just doesn't get any better with the superb LED-LCD picture quality.

Lately I have been getting a lot of use out of the USB... Read more

This review is from: LG Infinia 42LV5400 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV (Electronics)
I couldn't be more satisfied with the features of this TV alongside with its price tag. First off, I am truly surprised how few reviews there are on this model in comparison to the LG42LV5500. I did my homework before buying a new set, and both of these models are exactly the same. The only difference is the lv5500 has a magic remote. But this tv comes with the magic remote "feature", meaning you can always buy the remote in the future at around $70.

I consider this LG unbeatable with all that it offers. The picture is flawless, brilliant in colors, contrast and detail. I feel no motion lag as with some 60hz models. And am truly grateful to have the 120hz. It has a decent amount of user manual settings including colors and pic modes, but not overwhelming and simple enough for the ordinary ind.. The Trumotion feature is not to my liking, as it makes the picture look like some soap opera, taking away from that "cinema feel". So that is up to ones personal liking, but I... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Local Dimming is VERY distracting - Too bad, November 13, 2011

This review is from: LG Infinia 42LV5400 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV (Electronics)
I hate to be the first person to give this TV a less than perfect score, but the local dimming effect on a mostly black screen is dramatically distracting; I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned in other reviews. (It has been on the LV5500 as "backlight bleed") FWIW, this unit has an IPS panel.

When white text is shown against a black screen, the backlighting goes wild in a horizontal band across the screen. I also have the magic motion remote and the cursor causes the same effect: as the cursor moves, there is a bright halo that surrounds it everywhere is goes. It's distracting to the point that I'm considering returning this unit. And that's too bad because the picture quality is really outstanding otherwise. The colors are natural and lifelike.

I was aware of the potential drawbacks of local dimming, but I didn't expect it to be so noticeable.

Also, the web browser has frozen twice in less than a week. The only fix is to shut off the TV... Read more
