Toshiba 55SL417U 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Net TV, Black Reviews

I wasn't interested in a top of the line TV - to me LED wasn't a priority, nor was 3D. I simply wanted a good priced, quality LCD that would properly produce clear HD 1080p resolution. When I came across this TV I was very hesitant to place the order, as there were simply no reviews anywhere. At the size and price it seemed too good to be true. After a few weeks of enjoying the TV I can happily report that I have not been disappointed at all! However, this TV is certainly not for the hard core techies out there. If you're the type to worry about comparing contrast ratios, refresh rates, and 3D then this probably won't satisfy your needs. Although this TV is listed as an LED, the picture produced is really just a true LCD resolution. You won't get the overly realistic "soap opera effect" that LEDs have, which quite honestly I don't enjoy that much to begin with, except for watching sports. If you're... The picture quality is very good. It's also a nice looking TV. For the price, I think it's a great deal. The problem, however, is that the internet connectivity just doesn't work well at all. It doesn't really bother me, since I have other devices that can stream netflix and other services. Plus, the 55sl412u, which is the model without internet connectivity, is actually more expensive.I'm actually on my second TV. I ended up exchanging through Amazon. Unfortunately, the second TV has the same problem that the first one did. The issue is that whenever I connect the TV to the internet, the controls will completely freeze after a few minutes. The TV stops responding to the remote and to inputs on the panel itself. The only thing it will do is turn off after 15 seconds if I press the power key. Connecting over wireless makes the TV stop responding much more quickly than over ethernet. Sometimes it might last an hour or so over... I picked this TV up at a local retailer on sale for $999. The wifey said "take it for that price!" (which was a shocker in itself!!!) It was $1299+ everywhere else and I didn't want to buy one online because if I didn't like it I had the option of taking it back to the store and not having to ship it back. It's a nice looking TV for the price.Yeah, the sound totally sucks but if you're buying a TV for the sound then there's something wrong with you!!! Bad sound can easily be fixed with a sound bar. Bad video can't. I'm not a videophile person but the picture looked like all the other $1200-$1500 55" LEDs that I'd seen and it also has built in Wi-Fi, Skype, Netflix etc. Blu-Ray movies look awesome and DirecTV HD programming as well. No complaints here...it was a steal for $999!!! I pretty much got what I paid for...and then some. The 4 stars is because of the sound only. |
